Kataragama, Tissamaharama
Pick up from Hikkaduwa hotel and proceed to Kataragama
Holy City via the costal line in South. Lunch on the way to Tissamaharama. In the evening pilgrimage to the predominantly
Hindu Jungle shrine of Kataragama. Check in your hotel. Dinner and overnight stay Tissamaharama.
Kataragama
Kataragama: A
sylvan shrine, 21 km inland from Tissa is a shrine dedicated to God skanda, the
Hindu God of war known locally as ‘Kataragama Deiyo’is one of the most
important pilgrim sites in Sri Lanka. The annual festival is coming alive in
July and August, the area brims with life as the festivals and processions take
to the streets, with majestic pachyderms, fire walkers, dancers and much more.
When a large
number of Buddhists, Hindus and even Muslims converge to take part in the
festivities. They cleans themselves in the holy waters of the Menik Ganga
(river) and offer flowers, shrines come alive when poojas are presented
to the Gods – baskets filled with fruit and flowers, burning incense and oil
lamps, dashing of coconuts, clanging of bells, and the continuous chanting – a
mesmerizing experience. The Kirivehera
being the main attraction of this quaint religious town for Buddhists, the
Katharagama Temple and Sella Katharagama also beckon forth many pilgrims to
visit on a yearly basis.

02
Wake up Early morning at 05.00 am proceed
to Yala national park. And we will
visit safari for jeep. After Lunch
proceed to Hikkaduwa or Colombo airport. En route visit the Hummanaya (blow hole) in Dickwella.The blow –hole is
an attractive natural feature where a sea spray splashes up to as high as 40-50
feet during the monsoon period and attracts many foreign and local tourists
alike.
Yala National Park
Yala National Park is a second largest national park
in Sri Lanka. Yala or Ruhunu National park is one of the best and most popular parks
in the country due to its diversity and density of the mammals. It consists of
five blocks covering area of 97,881 hectares. Much of the reserve is parkland,
but it also contains jungle, beaches, freshwater lakes and rivers and
scrubland. The latter zone is punctuated with enormous rocky outcrops. The
range of habitats give rise to a good range of wildlife.Yala has the world's
highest concentration of Leopards, although seeing this largely nocturnal
carnivore still requires some luck. There are good numbers of Asian Elephants,
Crocodile, Wild Boar, Water Buffalo and Grey langurs amongst other large
animals. The open parkland attracts birds of prey such as White-bellied Sea
Eagle and the wetlands have Waders, Painted Storks, and the rare Stork. Land birds
of course are in abundance, and include Blue Faced Malkoha, Indian Peafowl and
Sri Lanka Jungle fowl etc .Following
this a scenic drive along the southern coast brings you to Hikkaduwa or Colombo
airport.
Blowhole or
Hummanahaya
Hummanaya
is a natural blowhole, and caused when sea water rushes through a submerged
cavern and is pushed upwards. The sea water flows underneath the shore, and
then comes out of this hole due to pressure. The water fountain created by the
geological feature shoots up every couple of minutes, depending on the nature
of the sea, with the spray often reaching as high as 25-30 m.
